Frequently Asked Questions: Auditions
Listed below are some common audition-related questions and their answers.
Q: Can anyone audition for the choir?
A: Anyone who is between ages 7 and 18 and loves to sing is welcome to audition.
Q: What will I have to do at auditions?
A: You will be asked to read a short poem (provided at audition), sing a few warm-ups, and sing a familiar song. More experienced students should prepare an audition piece.
Q: Do I have to have sheet music?
A: No, but you are welcome to bring sheet music if you like and we will play the accompaniment. A capella (just singing with no accompaniment) is fine. No accompaniment CDs please.
Q: How long will my audition take?
A: You and your parents will spend a few minutes talking with one of our administrators, and then you will sing for our choir directors. Expect to spend about 30-45 minutes at your audition all together.
Q: Does every one "make it"?
A: NCYC is really 5 choirs in one. Auditions are required so that you can be placed in the choir that best fits your age, experience and ability. No one that has a love for music and a desire to learn will be turned away.
Q: What happens after I audition?
A: You will be notified of your choir placement either at the end of your audition or by mail. You will receive printed materials, including a registration form and a calendar, which detail the rehearsal and concert schedules. We'll see you on Orientation Night!
Q: What if I have questions?
A: You may contact NCMA at 815.356.SING (7464) or info@ncmusica.org.
