Choirs and Tuition (Know your ABC’s!) top

Aria: A training ensemble from age 7 (grade 2)-grade 5. Emphasis is on introducing music reading and singing skills. Annual Tuition: $500, Retreat Registration Fee: $25

Bella Voce: An experienced ensemble from grades 4-8. Emphasis is on developing exceptional vocal skills and music reading ability. Students may move to Cantabile upon the invitation of the directors. Annual Tuition: $500, Retreat Registration Fee: $25

Cantabile: An advanced choir for grades 6-9. Members are dedicated and excellent singers with advanced ability to read music. Students are required to complete at least two years in Cantabile before being considered for Di Canto. Exceptions may be made by the director. Annual Tuition: $600, Overnight Retreat: $110 (late registration add $35)

Di Canto: Consists of motivated high school musicians, for grades 9-12. Occasionally boys whose voices have changed dramatically may be invited to join before 9th grade. Music selection is from the most advanced and challenging literature appropriate for the choir. Annual Tuition: $600, Overnight Retreat: $110 (late registration add $35).

Encore: Any member of Cantabile or Di Canto who has been a member of NCYC for at least one year may choose to participate in Encore. Rehearsals are intensive and may begin two to eight months before our scheduled tour. One international, national or regional tour may be taken per season, rotating over a cycle of three years. Each singer pays or fundraises for their costs of the tour.

About Tuition top

Tuition is for the entire 2009-2010 season. It covers over 70 hours of high caliber musical instruction and vocal training per season, as well as theory, activities and materials (including music). Tuition also pays for a portion of our operating expenses such as rehearsal space, advertising and mailings, as well as compensation for conductors, accompanists, and administrative staff.

Each Northwest Community Youth Choir member will:

  • Be respected, welcomed and valued as an individual
  • Develop his/her singing, musicianship, and music theory skills in a fun, non-threatening, educational environment
  • Interact with and be exposed to music, languages, and history from other cultures and traditions
  • Perform music which is of the highest quality, and is challenging and exciting to learn
  • Contribute to the cultural life of his/her community and surrounding areas through concerts, tours, and festivals
